PC Shortcuts for Accented Characters Using Microsoft Word or Works


´       Press Control + apostrophe ( ' ), then letter to be beneath accent (for example, e)
`       Press Control + backwards apostrophe ( ` ), then letter to be beneath accent
ˆ       Press Control + Shift + 6, then letter to be beneath accent
¨       Press Control + colon ( : ), then letter to be beneath the accent
˜       Press Control + Shift + tilde (~), then letter to be beneath the accent
ç       Press Control + comma ( , ), then "c"

Note: to capitalize any letter using this method, hold "Shift" when pressing letter to be beneath the accent.


PC Shortcuts for Accented Characters In Any Program:

Hold the "alt" key while typing the following code on the number pad to the right side of the keyboard.
 
é:      alt + 0233
è:      alt + 0232
ê:      alt + 0234
à:      alt + 0224
â:      alt + 0226
ç:      alt + 0231
ô:      alt + 0244
î:      alt + 0238

Note:  to find the code for any character, go into Microsoft Word, click on the Insert Menu, and click Symbol.  Select the character for which you want a code.  At the bottom of the window which comes up, you will see a box labeled “character code,” with either a three or a four figure code in the box.  Next to this box will be a drop down menu with the options “Unicode (hex),” “ASCII (decimal),” and “ASCII (hex).”  Select “ASCII (decimal).”  The character code box should now have a three number code in it.  Put a 0 at the beginning of this code, and this is the code which you type while holding the "alt" key to write this character.
